The 100th Anniversary Ceremony of the Chinese Psychological Society Held at NNU

On October 27, 2021, in order to celebrate the centenary of the Communist Party of China, review the development of the Chinese Psychological Society throughout the past century, sum up the achievements and experience of the development of Chinese psychology during the past century, and work out the major strategic tasks in response to the national “14th Five-Year Plan", the 100th anniversary ceremony of the Chinese Psychological Society and a Seminar on the Development of Chinese Psychology in the New Era were held at NNU, the birthplace of the Chinese Psychological Society. Held online and offline by the Chinese Psychological Society and organized by the School of Psychology at NNU and the Jiangsu Psychological Society, the ceremony is one of the major academic activities taking place marking the 120th anniversary of NNU. 

Hao Yin, member of the leading party members group, executive secretary of the secretariat of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) and curator of the China Science and Technology Museum, Chunlei Sun, secretary of the leading party members group, vice president of the Jiangsu Association for Science and Technology (JSAST), Huaicheng Zhu, secretary of the leading party members group of the Nanjing Branch of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, member of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee and vice president of JSAST, Chunhai Su, deputy secretary of the Education Committee of the Jiangsu Provincial Committee and member of the leading party members group of the Jiangsu Education Department and Minqiang Hu, secretary of the Party Committee of NNU attended the ceremony, as well as Houcan Zhang, former vice president of the International Union of Psychological Science, counsellor of the State Council and professor from Beijing Normal University, Xinhui Yang, senior member of the Chinese Psychological Society and professor from NNU, representatives of local psychological societies and other guests from universities and research institutes nationwide. The ceremony, divided into three parts, was presided over respectively by designate President Guoxiang Zhao, former President Buxin Han and Vice Executive Secretary Zhengkui Liu of the Chinese Psychological Society. 

The Chinese Psychological Society is one of the earliest academic organizations in China and one of the nine century-old societies under the leadership of the China Association for Science and Technology. In 1921, the Chinese Psychological Society, originally known as Zhonghua Psychological Society, was founded in National Nanjing Higher Normal School (the predecessor of NNU). At present, the secretariat of the society is affiliated with the Institute of Psychology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The past century witnessed its development from a group of a few dozen members to a large national academic community with more than 13,000 individual members, 36 professional committees, two preparatory committees, 12 working committees and two journal editorial committees, while leading 31 provincial psychological societies. For a century, and especially since China’s reform and opening up, the Chinese Psychological Society has endeavored to cultivate and unite psychologists and promote the scientific spirit and psychological knowledge in response to China’s strategies for economic and social development. So far, the society has achieved notable success in promoting psychological research, psychological education, and international exchanges in psychological fields, providing decision-making consulting services, and contributing to China’s social and economic construction.

At the ceremony, three publications and four activities were released, and two keynote reports were presented, along with branch reports by 10 professional committees of the Chinese Psychological Society respectively. Meanwhile, an exhibition marking the centennial of the Chinese Psychological Society was also held, which vividly displayed the history of the Chinese Psychological Society in the form of pictures and real objects.
